As the founding father of Das Pop and Lalalover, Kestens already did pioneering work with hip-hop pioneer and producer Krewcial, among others. The celebrated debut HELIOTROPIC in 2006 laid the foundation for a trend that is everywhere today: pop music without boundaries and cross-disciplinary songwriting. Recently Kestens, together with city poet Maud Vanhauwaert (Mijn Punt Is Actually) and as director of the youthful theater collective 'Mechels Dakterra' (in collaboration with Arsenaal/Lazarus, J@m and H30), has been looking for new hybrid forms of literature, poetry, slam, stand-up , theatre, songwriting. Interdisciplinary thinking is in his artistic DNA.

In addition, Kestens is active as a champion of a stronger cultural sector. He did this as spokesperson for GALM (today De Muziekgilde) and for the Culture Crisis Cell. He is currently working as an adviser to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke on, among other things, the reform of the social status of art workers.

He is currently working on a literary debut and a new album.
